Joy Bombs in the Psalms: Walking by Faith 2 | Psalm 16, John 14:1-7

This is the day you and I set aside to celebrate the goodness of God; to remember you and I were made to praise him. And you know what? He is so worthy of our praise and our thanksgiving, so join me in Psalm 16, right there in the middle of your Bible today.

Friday’s a good day to fill up on Joy, don’t you think? So glad you’re here for joy bombs in the Psalms. I’m Erica. This is the Bible for Busy People and this is the day you and I set aside to celebrate the goodness of God. To remember you and I were made to praise him. And you know what? He is so worthy of our praise and our thanksgiving, so join me in Psalm 16, right there in the middle of your Bible today.

Keep me safe, oh God, for I have come to you for refuge. I said to the Lord, you are my master. Every good thing I have comes from you. The godly people in the land are my true heroes. I take pleasure in them. Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods. I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood, or even speak the names of their gods. Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance. I will bless the Lord who guides me. Even at night. My heart instructs me. I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad and I rejoice. My body rests in safety for you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.

Remember yesterday when we read about how Jesus didn’t stay dead? He is alive and you and I are not going to stay dead. When that time comes, he will raise us as well. Verse 11 now.

You will show me the way of life granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.

Oh, doesn’t that sound just lovely? I love that you will show me the way of life. Hop over with me for a moment to the gospel of John, chapter 14 and let’s soak up some words from Jesus, as we wrap up our time together this week.

The Lord said, don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I’m going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you so that you will always be with me where I am going, and you know the way to where I am going. No, we don’t Lord, Thomas said, we have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way? Jesus told him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my father is. From now on you do know him, and have seen him.

So, isn’t it beautiful that King David, in Psalm 16, was talking about God? He’s saying, you will show me the way of life. And Jesus came. He was born on Christmas. He died on Good Friday. He rose on Easter Sunday to show you and me who he is. The way, the truth and the life. He is the way to peace. He is the way to live forever in a perfect place, where it’s always peaceful and there is no need for Kleenex. He is the way to have peace now, unexplainable peace in crazy circumstances. He is simply the Way, And I encourage you, if you have never made the decision to follow the Lord Jesus. You will never regret it. He is the best friend I ever had. There’s a wonderful song right now I encourage you to Google. It’s called God Really Loves Us by Crowder. Listen to it. You’ve got a friend who sticks closer than a brother who just happens to be your savior as well. Hey, thanks for being here this week. I can’t wait till Monday when you and I can be together again. Until then, hey, remember, you are really loved.
