The events that happened this week changed everything, and they still do. So, walk with me through the dusty streets of Jerusalem and let’s remember together what Jesus did for you, what Jesus did for me.
We’ll begin with his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Join me in Luke chapter 19, beginning in verse 28.

He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples saying, this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.
The words of Jesus spoken at the Last Supper as written down for us in the gospel of Luke chapter 22, and that’s what we’re going to do this week on the Bible for Busy People. You and I are going to remember the Lord Jesus together. It’s holy week, the most eventful and significant week on the timeline of human history. The events that happened this week changed everything, and they still do. So, walk with me through the dusty streets of Jerusalem and let’s remember together what Jesus did for you, what Jesus did for me. Let’s remember him. What do you say? By the way, note here, it was the Parable of the 10 Servants. An awesome story. You should read it. Look it up, Luke 19. Okay.
After telling this story, Jesus went on toward Jerusalem walking ahead of his disciples. As he came to the towns of Bethpage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives, He sent two disciples ahead. Go into that village over there, He told them. As you enter it, you’ll see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks, why are you untying the colt? Just say, the Lord needs it. So they went and found the colt, just as Jesus had said. And sure enough, as they were untying it, the owners asked them, why are you untying that colt? And the disciples simply replied, the Lord needs it. So they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on. As he rode along, the crowds spread out their garments on the road ahead of him. When he reached the place where the roads started down the mound of olives, all of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen. Blessings on the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in highest heaven. But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said, teacher rebuke your followers for saying things like that. He replied,
I love this line from Jesus.
If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers.
Isn’t that incredible? Boy, what was it like to be in that crowd? Can you see the palms flying everywhere? It’s called Palm Sunday, the day Jesus entered triumphantly into Jerusalem, and those cheers would soon turn to jeers. But today, you and I pause to remember that Jesus is so worthy of our praise. To remember the wonderful miracles we’ve seen in our own lives, and this is an opportunity for us to say blessings on the king who comes in the name of the Lord. He still comes not riding on a donkey, but into the dark, and confusing, and uncertain moments of our lives. He comes in and he reminds us that he’s never been far away. He’s always been right next to us, and I want to praise him. I don’t want those rocks to cry out. I want to praise him. Picking up our story now in Luke 19 verse 41,
But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace, but now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes. Before long, your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side. They will crush you into the ground and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place because you did not recognize it when God visited you.
It’s an emotional journey that you and I are on. We can feel the Lord Jesus’ heart for the city. He loves the city of Jerusalem and all of the people who live in it. Verse 45 now.
Then Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out the people selling animals for sacrifices. He said to them, the scriptures declare my temple will be a house of prayer, but you have turned it into a den of thieves. After that, he taught daily in the temple. But the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the other leaders of the people began planning how to kill him. But they could think of nothing because all the people hung on every word, He said.
Okay, that’s how I want to live, don’t you? I want to hang on every word God said. The words I’m clinging to right now come from Psalm 1 21.
I look up to the mountains, does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
Just sit with those words for a moment.
The Lord made heaven and earth.
It’s a reminder to me that absolutely nothing is impossible with God, as we know from scripture. So, find some words in the Bible to hang on to for dear life. Hang on the words of God with all your might and don’t let go. That’s your lifeline and my lifeline in this crazy world. He is faithful and he won’t let go. Alright, until next time, you are loved.
